I’m a bit concerned about this one. I know there’s a pinned post about Windows Defender being hypersensitive lately (it did flag this game), but I ran the file through virusTotal and multiple other security vendors flagged this game as having a keylogger.

Here is a report: https://www.filescan.io/reports/539c54a12951d2988891efb112c97792e4a820c120d3f3d119a97f3c7c862174/56d475ac-89d2-4d59-bca7-3d12ae3ec745/overview. I don’t think I am going to be running this file lol. Even if safe, game developers ought to test their product against antivirus and ensure it looks trustworthy.

I think it’s probably fine.

If you look at that report the two things setting the antivirus off are:
A) References to API calls to ask Windows which keys you’re pressing.
B) A bunch of highly random looking data in the exe.

And the reason for these is that:
A) It’s a video game. It only happens to use the mouse, but keyboard support would have come standard with the game engine it was built with.
B) All the game’s art and sound assets are compressed and packed into the .exe.
This scares the antivirus because it can’t always distinguish that from compressed/encrypted malicious code being packed into the.exe.

Also, it doesn’t ask to be let through the firewall or show any network usage to indicate it’s sending the keypresses anywhere.

Overall, given it’s a real working game and the site owner gets this stuff directly from DLSite as far as I know, I’d trust it as far as I trust any bullshit here.

That seems reasonable, and I did notice it seemed like key inputs for the game, however the fact other games don’t get set off on this makes me think these devs are using some very inappropriate APIs for their keypress logic. I don’t expect foul play on FFF, but if the game dev isn’t going to vet their game to ensure it’s not overreaching on the Windows APIs, I don’t really trust it to run on my system. I’ve downloaded other games in this engine that pass fine.

I’m always scared to play games like that, but I also don’t trust windows very much, and their antivirus is even less reliable…
